Today we celebrated Christmas early with Matt's family. We debated how to "break" the news to our families and we decided to surprise them with Christmas tree ornaments. We surprised Matt's mom and dad first, and they were very SURPRISED! About thirty minutes later Matt's sister and Katherine arrived and gave them the same present. They too were equally SURPRISED! We'll share the secret with my dad and sister Christmas Eve and my mom and grandma Christmas Day!
Matt and I went for our first prenatal appointment today. Normally, first prenatal appointments are scheduled for eight weeks, somehow our appointment was scheduled early, which is fine, our next appointment won't be for six more weeks, instead of four. My blood pressure was perfect 98/60 and physical exam was normal. Since we are only six weeks along, we weren't able to hear or see the baby's heartbeat. Our plan was to frame pictures from our first appointment to give to our families as Christmas presents, to break the GREAT news! Plan B...baby onesies. Sunday we are celebrating Christmas with Matt's family and Tuesday we are flying to NY to be with my family. It's so hard to keep a secret like this from them. I think we find relief in telling a few friends each day. Our next appointment is scheduled for January 28th, and we'll get to see and hear our baby's heartbeat!! So EXCITING!
Today Matt and I went to my regular doctor to confirm that we were in fact pregnant. She had me take a urine test and I was expecting to have to take a blood test as well. As we were sitting in the room waiting on the results of the urine test, my doctor came in and confirmed the test was positive, a QUICK positive, at that!
The morning of December 2nd, I got up at 7:30 and took a pregnancy test, however the results were negative, so I went back to bed. At 10:30 I made my way downstairs. I just had a "feeling" so I picked up the test that was on top of the garbage can and there was that "anticipated" second blue line, faint, but visible. I was speechless, to say the least. I guess at 7:30 all I could do was think about crawling back in bed and was a bit impatient.
I took a picture of the TWO blue lines with my phone and sent it to Matt. After a few minutes of no response, I tried calling him, but there was no answer. Out of curiosity, I dug through the garbage can for the test I had taken the previous day...low and behold, it too had TWO blue lines....moral of the story...wait the full three minutes as indicated on the back of the box. After three straight calls to Matt's voicemail, he finally answered on the fourth, however I could tell he was in the middle of an appointment, so I told him, hiding the excitement in my voice, to call me when he was done.
Next, I called the doctor and set up our first appointment. The first person I got to share the news with was the receptionist at my ObGyn's office, wonder how many of those phone calls she handles? After speaking with her, Matt called me back. I asked him if he got the picture I sent him, but he hadn't received it yet, so I told him the good news...WE'RE PREGNANT!
Matt was ecstatic!!! I explained how I checked both tests and both were positive, however Matt wasn't completely convinced. He thought that maybe after a prolonged time both blue lines appear. So off to the upstairs bathroom I went to dig out the test I had taken a few days earlier, luckily it still had only ONE blue line. I don't think it actually hit him until he saw the positive tests in person.
So we are very happy to announce Baby Wilson is due August 11, 2009!
